About the Connecticut Association of Health Plans
What and Who is CTAHP?The Connecticut Association of Health Plans(CTAHP) was created in 1987 when the concept of managed care was new in Connecticut and managed care covered less than 7% (or approximately 200,000) of the state’s almost three million residents. At the end of 1995, more than 30% or approximately 955,300 persons were enrolled in Connecticut’s HMOs. Recent estimates indicate well over one million individuals are now covered by private health insurance companies in Connecticut. The health plans that belong to CTAHP share the philosophy that an emphasis on preventive care and a coordinated approach to health care results in healthier members and better health outcomes. This proactive approach to quality health coverage is the basis for Connecticut’s health insurance carriers and the foundation of the CT Association of Health Plans. Mission StatementThe Connecticut Association of Health Plans and its member plans are dedicated to bringing high quality, affordable health coverage to Connecticut consumers. We do this by focusing on keeping people well through regular access to preventive care and by offering diverse networks of highly-trained health professionals to serve the health care needs of Connecticut consumers. The Association believes in open communication and strong, effective partnerships between patients and their physicians -- and in providing our members with the information they need to understand their coverage. CTAHP strives to facilitate a productive, on-going dialogue among Connecticut’s health insurers, policy makers and consumers to ensure that Connecticut’s health care system is the best that it can be.
